Shoreline Load Rating

Shoreline Load Rating refers to the maximum electrical load, measured in amps, that a mobile food trailer can safely draw from an external shore power connection, such as a building outlet or event-supplied power pedestal. This rating is critical to prevent overloading the trailer’s electrical system and to ensure proper operation of appliances and equipment during service. It is especially important when connecting to temporary power sources at events, commissaries, or commercial kitchens.

Use in Food Trailers

  • Power System Compatibility: Matches the trailer’s total electrical demand with the capacity of the shore power supply to avoid tripped breakers or electrical failures.
  • Safe Equipment Operation: Prevents damage to onboard appliances and electrical circuits by avoiding excessive current draw.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Supports adherence to local electrical codes and health department standards for mobile food units.
  • Event Readiness: Helps assess whether a venue’s power infrastructure can support full trailer operations without supplementary power sources.
  • Efficient Setup: Streamlines communication with event electricians or coordinators by providing clear electrical requirements.

Vendor Tips

Before connecting to any external power source, confirm that the available shore power meets or exceeds your trailer’s shoreline load rating. Use heavy-duty, properly rated extension cords and connectors to maintain safety and prevent voltage drop. Clearly label your trailer’s power requirements near the inlet connection to assist with quick and safe setup at events or inspections.
