Frame welding, wiring and plumbing all happen in-house at our shop in Olivehurst, CA. Book a visit ahead of time and see your trailer at any stage. After production, collect it in Olivehurst or have it delivered to Kansas City. We deliver to all 50 states.
In Kansas City, the Health Department's permit application may ask for fire inspection documentation. The Fire Marshal's office books those inspections, so plan that stop once the trailer arrives.
Designing in our 3D builder costs nothing, takes no account and has no limit on attempts. Choose hot or cold, set the length, then add equipment and extras. Your saved design stays available for 90 days to edit or share.
Plan power for sites without hookups. The Crossroads First Fridays plaza provides no electricity, and generators are among the builder's additional options. For water, our trailers carry 56 to 80 gallons of fresh supply and a 93-gallon gray water tank.
Golden State Trailers builds food trailers for sale in Kansas City at our own shop in Olivehurst, California, then ships each finished trailer to your site. Your menu decides the equipment. The equipment then decides the power, water and ventilation the trailer carries.
A pizza trailer is planned around its oven and dough prep, a coffee trailer around water supply and hot-water recovery. Trailers come in eight sizes, from 16 to 30 feet. Orders for several matching units from franchises, schools and corporate kitchens go through the same shop.
Our catalog of food trailers for sale and concession trailer models shows complete starting layouts. Order one as listed, or have us adapt it into a custom food trailer for your menu.
Within the Health Department, the Environmental Public Health Program handles food permits for mobile units. The city code names this one the Mobile Food Service Permit and requires it for each unit before service begins.
The city’s health permit guide says mobile vendors may need a permitted commissary or ghost kitchen. Confirm with the program whether your trailer needs one. Then split what is prepped there from what is cooked on board, since that split shapes the layout.
Any operation earning revenue inside city limits also needs a city business license. The Business License Section issues it, separate from the health permit.
The paperwork for a Kansas City unit splits this way:
Selling on streets, sidewalks or other public property takes a Peddler/Street Vendor Permit. If public property is the only place you sell, that permit can stand in for the business license.
The city’s street vending rules keep vendors 300 feet from businesses selling similar items and off trafficways, boulevards and parkways. Several named areas are closed too, including parts of 12th, 13th and 14th Streets downtown.
Kansas City Parks and Recreation issues a limited number of vending permits, each for a fixed park location the department designates. Its park vending policy asks applicants for a Health Department food permit, a business license, business insurance and vehicle insurance. Confirm trailer rules with KC Parks before you order.
On First Fridays from April to October, a food plaza fills a Crossroads parking lot at 1907 Grand Boulevard. Vendors need a current Kansas City Health Department permit. Confirm trailer rules with Art Garden KC before you apply.
The menu sets how much fire protection a trailer carries. Grills and fryers call for ventilation, fire suppression and gas lines; a cold trailer for coffee or ice cream needs none of them. Confirm fire requirements for a hot trailer with the Kansas City Fire Marshal’s office at (816) 513-4610 before you order.
For hot trailers, our build standards call for a UL 710 compliant exhaust hood built to the NFPA 96 standard, with airflow calculated for the cooking equipment. A 14×14 make-up air system replaces the air the hood pulls out.
The suppression system’s agent tank, gas shut-off valve and gas leak detector sit together in a stainless cabinet. Propane runs through a 400,000 BTU system with an automatic changeover regulator and a shut-off valve at each appliance. The cylinders ride in enclosed aluminum compartments.
July highs in Kansas City average about 88°F, and a cooking line pushes the interior hotter still. A 15,000 BTU roof-mounted air conditioner comes with every build, and our 20 ft food trailer spec lists R13 insulation.
Winter sets the other limit, with about 107 nights a year at 32°F or colder. When the trailer sits idle in a freeze, drain or protect its water lines and tanks.
May and June bring the most rain. A crowned one-piece aluminum roof sheds the water, and riveted aluminum panels on the exterior are designed to resist leaks.
At handoff, our team walks you through the cooking equipment, the gas and electrical hookups and the water tanks. On a hot trailer, that includes the fire suppression. You also receive the blueprints, equipment manuals and warranty card.
A one-year bumper-to-bumper warranty protects the trailer itself, while appliances stay under their makers’ warranties. After delivery, we stay available for technical help, parts and guidance on permits and inspections.
